Keep a save before the kill

If you also want SOLVE ET COAGULA, preserve a separate save after obtaining Aurifer and before killing a Relicta. Completing Ending 1 first and reloading that save for Ending 2 is a straightforward way to separate the two outcomes.

Do not overwrite the branch save with a later save if you still need to revisit the no-kill route. The important record is the game state before the action, not the filename you assign afterward.

Route steps

1. Finish the Aurifer refinement so the knife has its final name.
2. Find a Relicta on the late route after obtaining it.
3. Use Aurifer to kill at least one Relicta. A confirmed kill is the condition described by the references; merely assuming a hit counted is not enough.
4. Continue toward Séptimo Arte and finish the Hermes finale.
5. Check for MAGNUM OPUS on the ending result and in Steam’s achievement list.

One kill and all kills are different goals

Steam separately lists a hidden achievement, Heart of Lead, for eliminating all Relicta ghosts. That is not the same threshold as the Ending 2 route. Do not turn a one-kill ending condition into an unverified requirement to clear every ghost.

If you are planning both goals, use the achievement checklist to distinguish them. A checkbox is only your note; it is not proof that the game registered the requirement.

Can the route be reversed?

The cited guides describe a Relicta kill as the branch-changing event. Stopping afterward does not remove the earlier kill. To return to the no-kill branch, reload a save from before it. This is why the save point after obtaining the knife is valuable even when you intend to take this route first.

Why guides call it the “bad ending”

That term is common in walkthrough coverage, but MAGNUM OPUS and Ending 2 are the official achievement identifiers. This page explains the mechanical choice without retelling the closing cinematic or treating a community label as an official ranking.
